FBI Changes Policy for Notifying States of Election Systems Cyber Breaches (wsj.com) 32

The Federal Bureau of Investigation will notify state officials when local election systems are believed to have been breached by hackers [the link may be paywalled], a pivot in policy that comes after criticism that the FBI wasn't doing enough to inform states of election threats, WSJ reported Thursday, citing people familiar with the matter. From a report: The FBI's previous policy stated that it notified the direct victims of cyberattacks, such as the counties that own and operate election equipment, but wouldn't necessarily share that information with states. Several states and members of Congress in both parties had criticized that policy as inadequate and one that stifled state-local partnerships on improving election security. <sarcasm>Great. We'll just patiently wait for this to really happen. I'm sure there will be no problems at all.</sarcasm>

    • Yea, not going to happen. I have seen a lot of gimmicks in my day.

How is influencing a political organ voter manipulation? If you actually believe voters are too stupid to realize when they're being duped (which I agree with in some cases), then why don't you advocate to institute some test for voters, perhaps the test could be your IQ, money you have in your account, the number of businesses you own or the number of employees you employ. No problems with that.

In "some cases"? 40% of the US still don't see any problem with dumping fossil fuel pollution into the environment, killing 50,000+ Americans every year, and destroying the environment, possibly permanently.

  • If we would only demand paper ballots. There would be no "cyber breaches". I guess nobody really cares

Paper ballot, voter ID. You know, like pretty much all other nations do. But somehow - in the most integrated society on Earth - that's racist and evil.
      • The "voter id" laws we offer are NOT the same as used by other countries. The reason we call them racist is that the version the GOP keeps asking for ARE racists.

        Examples:
College IDs are not allowed - because college kids, (who are legally entitled to vote where they go to school) tend to be liberal. So the GOP says their school ID's are not strong enough and actually PREVENTS people with valid ID's from voting. Other countries deal with the lack of quality by requiring the schools to offer better ID

        • There is a reason a college ID should NOT be proof of residency (which is what matters for voter ID). You can very well be from out of State or even out of District and vote, with a college ID. In fact, that's why Canada requires proof of address with the college ID [elections.ca] and that makes sense to me. Or are you OK with college students getting two votes - one where they attend college and one where they may reside (in a different District/State/Precinct)?

As far as the price of ID, most States that require voter [ballotpedia.org]

ID is not free in places like Europe, it costs a relatively large amount of money (EUR 25+) to get a replacement ID and a bunch of paperwork (filing police reports, multiple proofs of residence and identity) which is more hoops than most US states require. In the US you can generally get a free voter ID if any ID is required.
