Syrian Hackers Deface Anonymous' Social Network 80

CWmike writes "After the hacking gang Anonymous took credit for defacing Syria's Ministry of Defense website, a Syrian group retaliated on Monday by posting gruesome photos on Anonymous' embryonic social network. The defacement of AnonPlus — the site Anonymous set up last month when it was booted off Google+ — did not include the name of the group responsible. The University of Toronto's Citizen Lab, however, credited the AnonPlus defacement to the 'Syrian Electronic Army' in a message posted to Twitter. 'In response to your hacking to the website of the Syrian Ministry of Defence, the Syrian people have decided to purify the internet of [y]our pathetic website,' the defacement read."

Has the author never been goatsed?
    • I doubt there's content gruesome enough in the entire Internet to shake the seasoned Anonymous.

/b/ had an expression for people who would try to deface /b/: "pissing in an ocean of piss". There was a comical graphic too, of course. I'm sure the same applies here.

      • I can think of some things even then. E.g. Showing people their own entrails would likely elicit very strong reaction, even among veteran anons. And these "hackers" likely being Syrian secret police, I wouldn't completely discount such a possibility.

More likely they are paid off organised crime. The Syrian secret police are more likely to be involved in direct physical brutality, for personal pleasure and profit, the intellectual needs of that kind of pursuits are not very high and do not include computer skills.

In those states organised crime and secret police often include the same people at the higher levels and are tied back to the monarchical government. That monarchical government of course pretends to be what ever style of governments it want

As a rule, by the time you're looking at your own entrails it's a bit late for much reaction. I think showing the entrails of other people that you love is what would be truly shocking, and pretty much the Syrian secret police's modus operandi.

      • Not even photos of the thousands of slaughtered Syrian citizens by their benevolent government would faze anon.

attempting to deface anything of Anonymous is like pissing into an ocean. of piss.

(not to take credit for this, I do not know its origin, but it is what immediately sprang to my mind reading this)

  • Anonplus was defaced by some group claiming to be from syria a week or so ago.

The site got a new title: "Hacket by The Pro & SaQeR SyRia" and carried a huge picture of syrian president Bashar al-Assad.

  • I doubt either side want to loose their street cred, so I guess a highly public hacking tit-for-tat match is about to kick-off.

  • coming from /b/...I don't think there's a picture out there that they won't fap to

Everybody wants to dunk on the other team's basket, but nobody wants to play defense.
  • They managed to temporarily deface a website of an ad-hoc networked organization, good for them.
    • by Xest ( 935314 )

Well, let's pretend we're very impressed by them.

That way they can continue spending even more resources attacking non-sites which means less resources available for blowing up and shooting innocent civilians in their own towns and cities.

    Sorry, had to say it.

This is shaping up to be a pretty interesting hacking game. I wonder if we could get some sort of network involved to make it into a true spectator sport, and not just the barbs fired off after each round?

  • The world is beginning to look more like the hacker economy of David Brin's "Earth" every day.
  • Who set up this website anyway? Was it some anonymous? If so, then what nationality? Maybe he defaced it by himself? I mean... who would really register on AnonPlus? You loose your anonymity when you do, it was bullshit site to begin with, just with some simple HTML.

  • I take responsibility for this and all other hacks.
    • Also, I take responsibility for 911 since no one else has.

Why, you ask? Well... that is obvious. Because there are no Krispy Kremes in Kandahar! Selfish American pig-dogs. How much longer did you think you could withhold your sugary deliciousness?

I think you meant "Begun, the Script Kiddie Wars have."

I actually thought about writing it this way and then decided against it - I mean what does a bunch of losers from 4chan have in common with Yoda? There's probably some more appropriate anime quote, but I'm not much into anime...
