Journal frankie's Journal: Truth or Dare?

What is it about Bush Jr and/or Neoconservatism that compels their supporters to lie so much? At first I figured it must be a rare hypocritical abberation, but it just kept going, and going, and going:
  1. Bush supported the Patient's Bill of Rights in Texas?
  2. the pathology of Karen Hughes
  3. broken campaign promises
  4. WMDs: we know where they are
  5. it depends on what the definition of "imminent threat" is
  6. it depends on what the definition of "torture" is
  7. etc

I know this has been obvious for a long Long LONG time, but it hit home for me last night, quite literally. My grandfather-in-law came to visit for a few days. He's a staunch pro-Israel Republican whose favorite news source is the Sinclair Broadcasting Group.

He has made his beliefs clear to us many times in the past. We smile politely and respond lightly. But yesterday, in the middle of complaining that John Edwards' smile looks fake, he felt a bizarre compulsion to claim that he was an independent and undecided voter! Yes, him and Bill O'Reilly. What is up with that?

There are liars on all sides, but ultra-conservatives dominate the field of flat-out bold-faced double-think. Why do they do it? I have no choice but to consider the Goebbels thing, which is downright depressing.
