Journal frankie's Journal: It's not a tumor 4

The Governator recently said "I've always been environment-friendly and I will fight for the environment. Nothing to worry about that." A quick look at his garage would belie that claim.

In 1990, Arnold saw a convoy of Army Humvees and wanted to have one (or 5 or 6). He single-handedly persuaded AMG to create a civilian version. It gets 12mpg under ideal conditions (8mpg in the real world) and is so huge that it's exempt from CAFE regulations for "light trucks" (e.g. Expedition, Durango, etc). And due to insane politics, self-employed people can take the full price as a tax deduction.

The best thing in life ... is to crush the environment before you and hear the lamentations of mother nature?

  • But how would you feel about a fuel cell Hummvee?

(Provided they donn't become unstable and explode.)
    • IMO, a Hummer with any power source (other than direct solar cells maybe) is unacceptable as a personal automobile. My #1 lobbying request [geocities.com]:
      • Any light truck that meets automobile-level standards for mileage, emissions, and safety should be merged with the ordinary passenger car category.
      • Any light truck that does not meet those standards should be merged with the Class C truck category (commercial trucks, buses, etc).
      • Anything larger than a light truck should be merged with Class C.

      • 3 ton trucks are meant for people with proper training and a legitimate business need. Period.

I'm with you on counting the emissions, but a 3 ton truck is not that big. Many people have a need to drive such cars.

Perhaps I'm accidentally misusing an overloaded term; it's something about carrying capacity, right? I meant that a vehicle which literally weighs over 6000bs when empty should never be considered a personal commuter car. And I still say that if someone has a reason to drive anything larger than a passenger car, they should get a truck/bus driver's license to prove it.
